Why are Mentors so Important?

The path to living your dreams is far shorter and a lot less lonely if you surround yourself with the right people. It is important to surround yourself with people from whom you can learn, gain support, help, and get the encouragement you will need to keep going even when things get difficult.

It is commonly believed that you are the average of the five people you spend most of your time around. Are you surrounding yourself with the right people, who exhibit some or all of the characteristics you aspire to have or be. Investing your time with these people will allow you to see what is possible and make that possibility both believable and achievable for you.

When you surround yourself with the right people, you dramatically increase your chances of identifying the opportunities that lie hidden in every challenge, because you are consistently operating in a positive environment that is conducive to creative thought and action.

You can have more than one Mentor at a time but make sure that you carefully select the right people to include in your reference group. These people must consistently offer you a positive push, so that you can reach your full potential. When you envelope yourself in the perfect circle of excellence, your success will become almost effortless and anything is possible for you.

When you are faced with any challenges or beginning a new project, choose your support group very carefully. A well chosen support group of trusted advisors will contribute invaluable information when needed & will offer guidance when the going gets tough. Be selective with whom you entrust your dreams & ensure that your support group speaks to your highest self & that they see your greatness in their hearts.

There are several ways to create the positive environment that will help lift you closer to your success. Seek people who are successful and who have done what you hope to do and work to include them in your network. Get a mentor to guide and assist you. Identify what you want to learn and connect with the expert in that specific area and then immerse yourself in positive listening, watching, and reading.

Choose a mentor that has succeeded in areas where you wish to build your future, they must challenge you, hold you accountable and bring the best out in you. When you invest the time, energy and effort into discovering the right mentors that are willing, able, enthusiastic and compatible with your needs and personality, you will have discovered an incredibly valuable asset to fast forward your success.

Don’t be afraid to walk in the footsteps of others – for that is where the most skill and knowledge is acquired. When the time is right have the confidence to stride out and make your own mark.

  • I love this article, just as Pepe Minambo says that the destiny of one is determined by the people he interacts with and the books he reads, yes indeed the people you keep around you will determine the direction of your success. If you associate with dream killers you will go nowhere but if you associate with resourceful and positive people, these are dream builders, you are bound to succeed.

Thank you Andrew for your inspirational article.

    • Thanks so much for the feedback Emmanual. We most certainly are the average of the five people we spend the most time around. Do an exercise and look at the five people you spend most of your time around. Then average out their finances, health, relationships etc. You will see that you are the average of the five in all areas. So obviously, if you want to change anything, you must change the people that you surround yourself with. May you have a blessed day
